Director's Note

Welcome to the website of the New Delhi Tuberculosis Centre.

The Centre has been at the forefront of tuberculosis care, training, research and public health activities for decades, serving as a premier institution dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and management of tuberculosis. Our mission is to provide quality patient care while contributing to national efforts under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme towards the goal of TB elimination in India.

At NDTB Centre, we strive to combine clinical excellence with scientific research, epidemiological surveillance, laboratory strengthening, training and community outreach.

About NDTBC

The New Delhi Tuberculosis Centre (NDTBC), established in 1940 through a collaboration between the Tuberculosis Association of India and the Government of India, played a pioneering role in tuberculosis (TB) control in India. At a time when sanatorium-based treatment was impractical due to limited resources, the Centre introduced the concept of “Organised Home Treatment,” a community-focused approach that later became the basis of domiciliary treatment under the National TB Control Programme.

In 1951, NDTBC became India’s first TB Demonstration and Training Centre with support from WHO and UNICEF. Over the years, it contributed significantly to TB research, healthcare training, epidemiological surveys, and the implementation of national TB control strategies, including DOTS.
